Thursday evening saw the finale of the fantastic Pigs Gone Wild art trail, with the auctioning of 40 life sized pig sculptures in aid of St Elizabeth Hospice. Throughout the summer the pigs have graced the streets of Ipswich and have proved to be a huge hit with locals and tourists alike.
The evening surpassed all expectations and completely smashed the fundraising target of £100,000. The pigs raised a total of £154,050 on the night but combined with other donations from the community the total figure raised was an outstanding £200,000.
Unfortunately I was unable to make the auction in person, but it was almost as exciting watching it live online. I am still stunned and shocked that Ipswich Blue came out on top, raising an incredible £6500. I’m so pleased she is going home with her sponsors AB Ports, and will still be able to be enjoyed by everyone in Ipswich.
I have loved being part of another hugely successful Wild in Art sculpture trail. The concept is such a brilliant way to raise money. Not only does it benefit the charity concerned but it engages so many different people and benefits the whole community. I shall look forward to hearing what sculptures will be visiting Ipswich in the future….
